hen I originally purchased this unit, they were using an inferior design on the solder sucker. It had a plastic receptacle that melted from the solder building up. But last year they changed the design so the desoldering gun now uses a tempered glass tube instead, and they provided that replacement for free. It has been in constant daily use and remains turned on all day, just as my Wellers do. And it has held up about the same as the Wellers. That's pretty reliable, especially considering Wellers cost a lot more. My only complaint is that I can't use the soldering pencil and the desoldering gun at the same time. Fairly often I'm shotgun-replacing capacitors and such, where it would be really useful to have access to both tools at the same time. I have also found that the thermistor in the Yihua is grossly inaccurate. I have to set it for 850 degrees in order to get a measured 700 degrees at the tip. That goes for Hakko tips as well as generic ones or Yihua branded ones. It's not a problem because I know what I have to do to make it work, but it would be nice to see more accuracy there.
This is a beginners dream come true! I didn't even know this kind of stuff existed! It makes learning so much easier and more enjoyable! It is a well-made and ideal for gifts.
This compact heat gun gets into places the larger models won't. Very useful in automotive electronics installation and repair. The steam of heat is narrowly focused allowing you to more accurately shrink tubing.
Worked well removing components that fit in the tip hole. It required the heat setting at max for best results and quickest time to melt. Only wish they had at least one larger tip. The current tip is 1.0mm. I think a 1.0mm and extra 1.5mm would be all that most would need. I only gave it a 4 because only having one tip is being cheap, and to buy additional tips is over priced.
