This was my first time ever trying Tom's of Maine. I chose to try it because it is flouride-free. After reading some of the results for a web search on, "is fluoride toxic?", I wanted to find and try a flouride-free toothpaste. I am very happy with the product. It leaves your mouth with a fresh and clean feeling after brushing with it, as well as a feeling of accomplishment of doing something that is healthier for your body. I am now considering it to be my new favorite toothpaste and will use it instead of any other if I have the choice.
The only thing I don't like about this toothpaste is that since it was sold to a major big brand company, they added sodium laurel sulfate (causes foaming- is in detergents, soap products). Other than that, NONE of the ingredients cause cancer as some have suggested on here. I suffer from an adrenal issue that cause crepe skin, thinning gums and breaks down tooth enamel. My hygienist has done extensive research for my condition and has suggested toothpaste w/o fluoride and little to no "minty" flavor (breaks down enamel). I've tried various forms of Sensodyne over the years, but all of them have fluoride.
I’ve been using this toothpaste for at least 5 years. I keep plenty on hand because I love it so much. Plaque is a no longer a problem for me and my dentist is very impressed!
I started using Tom’s years ago. The first time I used it I immediately thought that other toothpastes were filled with so much junk because you DO NOT taste it with Tom’s. It does what a great toothpaste is suppose to, minus the junk.
