Seems to be a good welder but the connections on the front are a little loose after putting the connections in. I have only used the mig so far but seems to be doing the job.
Set the Tig up this morning and welded a flange. Works great. Hadn’t touched a Tig welder in about 30 years and it worked just like I remembered. Update: Just welded with 6011 and 7018 rods today and the stick weld works great. I’m a little rusty but the machine is good. The rod clamp lead is a little short, but ok.
I have never used a mig welder in my life. All my limited welding has been 7018 stick. Well, if I had known that mig welding was this good I would have changed over years ago ! I have nothing to compare it too, but it sets up in no time. My experience with flux wire was not good. I went down and got a tank of 75/25 and gave that a try. .030 steel wire and off to the races. NO spatter, and you would think I know what I'm doing !! My experience is that you only really get good performance by using 220/240 volts. I made up a adapter to take voltage from a clothes dryer plug, used the adapter provided, then a 50 foot HD extension cord. As for the value, I purchased the unit several months ago, so I paid a lot less than the present price of 609.00. ( Cdn dollars ) I'm very happy with my purchase.
I have literally no idea what I'm doing when it comes to TIG but I watched a few videos and went for it. This box has absolutely no problem working with mild and stainless, and it's got enough flexibility with the settings to work with most setups. I'm currently running it off 110v and have had no issues with thinner mild steel. My only suggestion for improvement would be an increased post-flow time, as it currently maxes out at 6 seconds.
